Carolyn has always known what her calling is–to help the elderly live in the comfort of their own homes with independence and dignity. Gifted with an inherent love for people, she has been delivering home health care with compassion for more than twenty years.

Since February, Carolyn has been providing live-in care to her 89-year old patient who has remained active, sociable, and independent. Her client likes to read, go out for walks, shop, and see movies with friends. Carolyn’s willingness to accommodate her wishes has helped build a strong bond between them. Through patience and hard work, she’s been able to help her client live a full and satisfying life. Laughter is another component of their solid relationship. A typical day consists of taking walks, and driving to her client’s favorite stores: Whole Foods, Bed Bath & Beyond, REI, Orchard Supply Hardware, Walmart, and Ross. Two or three times a week, they go the Synagogue. Besides companionship, Carolyn assists with dressing, administering medications, light housekeeping, and preparing meals. A Certified Nursing Assistant, Carolyn is trained in creating a safe physical environment for her client; she is skilled in fall prevention and range-of-motion exercises. She takes vital signs and is proficient with most home medical equipment.

Carolyn said that if you really like your job, it becomes interesting. She considers taking care of her clients as looking after her own family–a joyous and rewarding experience. To Carolyn, life is about giving; when a client receives exceptional and trustworthy care, she knows that she has done her job well.
